AND we’re back! Sorry for the delay in postings lately, life has been crazy and Quest For Vault Disney was forced to take a back seat t everything else going on.

The second half of December is surprisingly quiet for Disney history, so instead of taking another tour of ExtinctAttractionLand or looking at movies or shows that need to be released for the vault, allow me to comment on some current Disney releases: Frozen and Saving Mister Banks.  I’ll be brief, and also spoiler free.

My short review: GO SEE THEM.

Frozen: Beautiful animation, great music and pure attention to detail.  Watch the snowflakes during the movie, its just stunning to see how unique each one is. It’s a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen‘s The Snow Queen, with a sisterly twist.  When seeing Frozen, stay through the credits. You’ll be rewarded with a disclaimer about one of the characters, as well as a great follow-up animated sequence.

Another great feature of this film is Get a Horse, the Mickey Mouse short that appears before it.  This cartoon alone makes Frozen worth seeing in 3D, and I am not one for 3D movies most of the time.  Using archival footage, Mickey Mouse is voiced by Walt Disney. That alone is worth the price of admission, but it is a very funny cartoon.

Saving Mister Banks: Tom Hanks plays Walt Disney. There, its been said. Hanks does a good job portraying Walt Disney, and this has garnered the lion’s share of attention for the movie. It’s not a movie about Walt Disney, it’s the story of PL Travers and of Mary Poppins.  Emma Thompson plays the adult Travers and does a wonderful job.  The movie is stolen, however, by Colin Farrell in the role of Travers Goth.

This is a great movie, but not one for all audiences.  Saving Mister Banks is not unsuitable for children, it just will not be able to hold their attention as long as Frozen would.  It is still one that should be seen by older Disney fans, it will leave you wanting to WATCH Mary Poppins again, instead of just SEEING Mary Poppins again.  Again I suggest through the credits, not just for the archival photos and audio that is shared, but for the heartwarming dedication afterwards.

I want to know what you thought of both movies, please leave your comments below.  Out of respect for others, please try to remain spoiler free. I thank you for taking the time to read this today.
