Hello and welcome back to my thoughts and musings.  Today I want to recognize the man who is indirectly responsible for making this blog happen, Dave Smith.

Born on October 13, 1940, Dave Smith joined the Walt Disney Company staff on June 22, 1970 as the founder of the Disney Archives. He is recognized by the company and its fans as being the final authority of all things related to Disney.

Aside from creating the archives and making into a model organization for other corporations, he has also been the spokesperson for the archives by writing columns for various publications,  starting with The Disney Channel Magazine as well as Disney Newsreel and Disney Magazine.

Additionally, he Smith has authored several books, including all three editions of the official Disney encyclopedia Disney A to Z; Disney Trivia From the Vault; as well as co-authoring Disney: The First 100 Years with Steven Clark.

For his work in the Archives, Dave Smith was named a Disney Legend in 2007.  During his acceptance speech he stated he has worked with nearly every other Disney Legend.  He officially retired from the Walt Disney Company in 2010.  Happy Birthday Dave Smith.
