Disney’s Michael Jackson Tribute

Hello, and thanks for stopping by again.  This is  place where I look back at the way Disney was in the past, how how it could look in the future.  My goal is to focus on broadcast shows, park attractions and the people who helped shape both.

On September 18. 1986 Captain EO opened at Disneyland inside Tomorrowland in the Magic Eye Theater.  It starred Michael Jackson in the title role, with Anjelica Huston as the galaxy’s Supreme Ruler.  The 3-D film produced by George Lucas, and the Magic Eye Theater was built on the site of the Flying Saucers.

On April 6, 1997 the curtain fell on Captain EO, to make room for a new 3-D film, Honey I Shrunk the Audience.  Tragically, Michael Jackson passed away four years ago today, on June 25, 2009.  On February 23, 2010 Disneyland opened Captain EO Tribute, a Limitied Engagement in a celebration of Jackson’s life.  Despite being a limited engagement, the show is still running today.
